Looking for a fun place to get a bite to eat next time you pass through the Hill Country? Look no further than Soda Pops Grill, Bar, and Sugar Shack. Located on Main Street in the historic district directly across from Main Plaza is one of the cutest places you will find in any small town. It’s a burger joint that’ll take you back to the 50’s. It’s definitely one of my favorite restaurants and one of the best places to grab a quick bite or sit back, slow down, and admire the small town life.
With it’s black and white tile floor, and twice a month hot rod nights, it won’t take you long to feel like you’ve stepped back in time with Marty McFly.
We stopped in today to satisfy our salty and sweet craving with a few orders of fries and tater tots and a peppermint milkshake. This was not our first visit though. I had come once before to try the famous Magnum burger. With rumors that Tim Duncan has been known to drive up to Boerne to get a Magnum burger and shake, we knew it must be not only one of the best burgers in Boerne, but probably one of the best burgers in the San Antonio area.
Once you’ve had your fill of those fresh hot fries, head on over to the Sugar Shack. Or take your burger and fries with you. It’s owned by the same family, and you’ll be surprised when you step inside.
There’s a really cute bar you can sit at and order a shake to go with your burger, or you can head to the back for a game of pac man, pin ball, or some old fashioned table top games as well. Check out this link for a 360 pic of the inside of Sugar Shack. Not only is it a great place to satisfy a sweet tooth, they have lots of great gift items. Mugs and cups, giant pez dispensers, tsum tsums. Lots of really fun items. Next time we’re looking for something for a birthday party we might just pop in. Who wouldn’t like a cute toy and a gift card to the Sugar Shack?
The kids tried a couple ice cream flavors and settled on a pumpkin pie ice cream sandwich on double chocolate chip cookies, rolled in sprinkles….
And a peppermint milkshake, complete with whip cream and a cherry on top.
I tried them both, and can’t decide which one I like better. We were also pleasantly surprised to find some taffy from Hammond’s Candy Factory. Being from Denver we used to tour Hammond’s candy factory every Christmas Break and pick out our hand pulled candy canes. It’s adorable, also nostalgic, and a must do if you ever go to Denver.
We had a great afternoon, and can’t wait for our next trip to Soda Pops. As we pulled into our driveway that afternoon, the kids ran to tell their friends where they had been. They all couldn’t stop talking about their favorite thing to order and how much they all love Soda Pops. Sometimes simple things make the best memories. It only takes a few minutes to slow down and take the kids for ice cream. So glad we have an amazing local place run by such nice people right here in our small town.
If you like hearing about great places to eat and fun things to don in and around San Antonio. Please subscribe to my page or follow me on Facebook at Adventures in San Antonio
Or or join our Boerne Mommy and Me Facebook group page for fun things to do around town or a great place to ask other mommies for advice on anything from the best pediatrician to where the best birthday party spots are.
These are things I’m looking at Amazon now. Inspired by our trip to Soda Pops. These are affiliate links. Which means I get a tiny portion of the proceeds from the purchase of these items, but it doesn’t cost you even one penny more. So go ahead. Add those sprinkles to your cart and the cute paper straws too.
A few things I’m going to need to make our own fancy ice cream sandwiches and milkshakes. The kids will never want them without sprinkles again.
